Dear, whoever it may concern
I am writing this paragraph to inform younger kids about the dangers of using Myspace, AIM, and Facebook. You need to watch out for those pedophiles, who might rape you or possibly kill you. There was just a 29,000 predator bust a couple weeks ago.
If you do have a Myspace or some other kind of online network, make sure you’re talking to people who you know are your friends. I am not talking about people you added as friends. I am talking about people who you know. If you add someone as a buddy or a friend, make sure that they are someone you know and trust.
Another major concern is that if you plan to meet someone, make sure you know them, or take your parents with you. This is so that if they aren’t who they say they are then, who have some protection.
Please avoid putting out personal information if possible, such as an address or phone number. This could lead to someone coming to your house to possibly do bad things to you, or calling/ stalking. Unless your parents are with you or know what site you’re going to, don’t go on the internet. They do that for your safety, so that you won’t get hurt.
Also try to at least skim the privacy policies, to get a basic understanding of the website, and to be sure that it is a safe website. Also have your parents review the website took make sure it’s something they want you to be exposed to.
You definitely want to call the police if someone is starting to make sexual comments to you. Don’t be the one to make sexual comments to other people. That too could end up badly.
Another major tip for online safety, is not to put graphic images of yourself on the internet. It can only damage you later in life, or give you a bad reputation. If there is something on your page that you wouldn’t want your parents to see, then it shouldn’t be there at all.
Basically, just be safe online and know what your doing.
